‘So the kind of practice’ by Shunryu Suzuki

This is another piece completed at a single sitting during the Covid 19 lockdown period. I wanted to make something completely free and spontaneous with no preliminary preparation, while pushing the boundaries of legibility.

I have used this text by Suzuki on a number of occasions as it sets out a corrective against the kind of obsessional approach that can hinder true creativity. It is partly in homage to this spirit that I have allowed all those shakes and wobbles which are an inevitable consequence of the handmade object.
